    Producer: Juan Peña

    Farm: Hacienda La Papaya

    Region: Saraguro, Loja, Ecuador

    Harvest: October 2024

    Variety: Gesha

    Process: Natural

    Altitude: 1900–2100 masl

    Cup profile

This gesha is sweet and aromatic, with a tropical profile that brings to mind mango, papaya, and melon. The acidity is juicy and bright, balanced by a silky body and a vibrant and fruit-forward cup that delivers clarity and depth in every sip.

    The Process

After harvesting, the cherries are fully cleaned with low-pressure water, then hand-sorted for perfect ripeness. They dry slowly for 20–30 days under carefully controlled temperature, airflow, and humidity. Turned up to 4 times per day for even drying.

    The Coffee

This Gesha has been grown on Hacienda La Papaya since 2018, using seeds sourced from Boquete, Panama. With drip irrigation and balanced fertilization, the plants develop slowly and intensely, building high sugar content and complex flavors.

    About the producer

Juan Peña is a former rose farmer turned coffee pioneer. Since 2010, he has transformed his 28-acre farm into a precision-driven operation, backed by agronomic science. His team tracks every input and outcome — from fertilizer trials to flavor profiles.

Juan’s commitment extends beyond coffee. He hires up to 40 local workers during harvest, 80% of whom are women. Every worker has formal employment and social security. During school breaks, high school students are also employed.

Hacienda La Papaya is widely recognized for excellence — often placing in top international competitions and earning Juan multiple Sprudge Notable Producer awards.
