📝Dear Coffee Enthusiasts,
WOC was amazing, wasn’t it? ☕️🇩🇰
On the last week of June, we had an amazing chance to visit World of Coffee festival in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Despite the long and exhausting trip caused by a train rail failure between Sweden and Denmark, all was worth the trouble. 💅
From the first to the very last day, we were running around and skipping lunch to not miss out on meeting some of the coolest people in coffee industry.
And of course, by that we mean the producers: the pivotal figures of coffee culture.👩🏻🌾
Jose Giraldo🥭
-It’s crazy, I’ve never had the chance to taste my own espresso, and at this quality, this good.
Us coffee geeks were completely starstruck and honored to meet the very guy who produced the bean we were showcasing for the fare. It is always weird to take a peek at the backside of the theatre when you are usually an audience, isn’t it? It was sort of the same feeling when we got to meet Jose and listened to the behind story of how he came up with the name of variety, and talked about his passion in sorting out only the best beans and trees. It was also very humbling and emotional to see how Jose tasted his own Papayo variety as an espresso at our stand and felt so joyful. Jose said that it was the best cup of espresso that he got to taste because he didn’t really get a chance to taste his own beans in an espresso form. And trust us, he wasn’t tooting his own horn because so many people who came to our stand at the fare were instantly in love with papaya magic. 🪄🥭
Wilton Benitez🫐
-You like my coffee, so that must mean you have a good taste in coffee!
The star behind our new yeast-inoculated Gesha competition and yellow Typica specialty coffee! What a charming, friendly and confident guy he was. We were instantly in love with his presence, and it was such a great pleasure to brew and serve his own yellow Typica to him. Not to mention he loved the coffee, and rightfully so! We often talk about farm to cup and culture to cup, and this was exactly what we look for in working for it. Wilton was very happy when Veronica from our team told him that his gesha tasted so much like fresh blueberry from cupping table, she just started calling it ‘the blueberry gesha’. Talking with Wilton, we felt like this moment would become a point where we would often look back in few years, whenever we need a reminder what we do should be benefiting both producers and coffee enthusiasts in the world.✏️🎞️
Oscar Hernandez🍇
-To finally meet Oscar Hernandez in person after trying his coffees for years was a dream come true and to top that up with a podcast episode, fireworks!
As we savor each cups of coffee in the morning, it is important that we not forget the remarkable journey and contributions of producers and traders that breathes behind it. Thanks to Oscar Hernandez and team Cata export led by Cat, Pierre and Ryan, we were able to celebrate the work and crucial role in cultivating, processing and purchasing of coffee in Colombia. After WOC, the following Tuesday we invited the team to our roasters in Stockholm, Sweden. To spread and share the learnings, we invited coffee enthusiasts, cafe and bakery owners and promising baristas in Stockholm to taste Oscar Hernandez’s coffee and learn about the each step of the process of handled with meticulous care and respect. Cat from Cata export also brought some of her favorite coffee samples and wuh, we don’t want to spoil anything for you… but we’ll just say that we really juiced out the last drop of the cupping table for those samples, and placed an order! 🤐💖
As we spent the last two weeks celebrating these incredible figures who makes the coffee scene so interesting, let’s raise our morning coffee cups to all the coffee producers of the world- who’s contributions and knowledge have shaped the World of Coffee. Their innovation, passion, and legacy is brewed into every cup we enjoy, reminding us that coffee is more than just a beverage—it’s a testament to the strength and spirit of the people who make it possible.👐🏻☕️
Warm regards,
Standout 👋🏻☕️
