Farm Description:
Fazenda Dona Neném, located in Presidente Olegário, Minas Gerais, is owned by Eduardo Pinheiro Campos, who carries on his family’s century-long tradition of coffee farming. Eduardo began his journey in coffee production in 1977 and has since developed Fazenda Dona Neném into a 649-hectare estate, with 275 hectares dedicated to coffee production. The farm is known for its environmental sustainability practices, including replanting native vegetation, maintaining Permanent Preservation Areas, and recycling water used in depulping to produce energy.
The Campos family’s legacy in coffee dates back to 1904, and Eduardo continues to honor this tradition with meticulous attention to quality. The farm employs selective mechanical harvesting to ensure only ripe cherries are picked, and Eduardo renews 10% of the coffee trees annually to maintain high standards. Fazenda Dona Neném has received national recognition for its coffee, including high placements in prestigious competitions.
Region Description:
Cerrado Mineiro, located in northwest Minas Gerais, is a renowned coffee-producing region known for its well-defined seasons and ideal growing conditions. The region’s hot, wet summers and dry winters create an optimal environment for coffee cultivation. Elevations between 800 and 1,300 meters, combined with the entrepreneurial spirit of the region’s farmers, contribute to the production of consistently high-quality coffees.
The Cerrado Mineiro region was the first in Brazil to receive Protected Geographical Indication status in 2005 and full Designation of Origin in 2013. With around 4,500 farmers producing an average of 6 million bags per harvest, the region is celebrated for its rich chocolate notes, big body, and velvety texture when brewed as espresso.
