We’re excited to share our latest release: a washed Sidra from Juan Peña and his farm Hacienda La Papaya in Ecuador. This is a coffee we’ve admired for years—and now, it’s part of our offering.
Juan Peña is one of the most respected coffee producers in Ecuador. His 11-hectare farm sits at 2,000 MASL in the Andean highlands, where the altitude, climate, and soil come together to support slow cherry development and complex cup profiles. Juan approaches coffee with a scientific mindset—focused, precise, and constantly experimenting to improve quality.
This lot is a washed Sidra, harvested in November 2024. The variety itself is a cross between Bourbon and Typica, known for its high sweetness, crisp acidity, and velvety mouthfeel. Sidra thrives in high-altitude environments like Hacienda La Papaya, where Juan gives it the care and nutrition it needs to reach its full potential.
Tasting notes
Expect complex floral notes with a distinct mandarin sweetness.
In the cup: black tea, candied mandarin, and stewed plums.
The finish is long, clean, and effervescent.
The cherries are carefully sorted, depulped, and fermented for 18–24 hours before drying in a controlled environment. The result is a clean, expressive cup that reflects both the variety and the skill behind it.
