About Yuri and the Montanchez Family

Yuri’s story is rooted in resilience.

Raised on a subsistence farm in Nariño, her family relocated to Putumayo during the 1990s. There, they farmed coca—before violence and government crackdowns forced them to leave.

Seeking safety and opportunity, her father Jesus Montanchez found a farm in San Agustin in 2001 and switched to coffee with no prior experience. He built a new life with his wife Maria and their children, driven by a vision for a safer, better future.

After Jesus’ sudden passing in 2021, Yuri stepped up. Alongside her brothers Robert and Mauricio, she chose to continue their father’s legacy. This Papayo micro-lot is her first ever international sale under her own name.

It’s the result of years of learning, rebuilding old parcels, experimenting with varieties, and improving processing with direct cupping feedback from Monkaaba.

    Why we selected this coffee:

This lot stands out for its clarity, complexity, and story.

Yuri’s work honors her father’s dream—to produce coffee that reaches people who value the craft behind it.

We’re proud to share it with you.
